With regard to the works of man, by the Word of Your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. -Psalm 17:4
In this psalm, David is letting God know that He is serious about doing right by Him for he is in need of God's help.
There are times in everyone's life where we are part of a group who may want to do something wrong or harmful. A group can be very persuasive. It's very hard to stand out against the group. As Christians, we are to follow Christ and His ways no matter the consequence.
In this verse, David is expressing to God that he avoided the ways of the violent. David did so by the powerful Words of God. Using God's Word in a time of hard decision may set us a part from the group but may also allow others the opportunity to stand against the group as well. Amen!
