God is our refuge and strength, a very present in help in trouble. -Psalm 46:1
Refuge is a word whose use is usually only connected with the Bible. But the word was an important one in biblical times especially for those who accidentally killed another person. In those times, as directed by God's Word, if a person accidentally killed another they would flee to a city of refuge, so that family members of the victim could not take revenge. Once there the judge who presided over the city would have a trial. If found innocent, the person on trial would then have to stay in that city until the judge died. But, at least he was safe.
God is our refuge that we can run to for strength in our times of trouble that ails us. Amen!
